What Causes Echo Resonance In Nose And Ear With History Of Maxillary Sinus?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Oct 2016
Question: Hi
I have been having resonance in nose and ear while talking. This happened after a severe sinus attack two months back which affected my ears. The infection went away two months back but this resonance and echo stayed. All hearing and pressure tests are normal. There is no blocked feeling in ears. The CT scan shows polyps in maxillary sinus and the NCVtest shows slight Bell's palsy in one ear but no effects on the face or anywhere else.
Also I got an ige allergy test and my ige is 1000. What could be causing the echo and how to fix it ?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Relevant information provided.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concern.

The resonance in the nose and ear is directly related to the polyps in the maxillary sinus.

Even though infection is controlled, removal of polyps will only offer you the freedom from aural resonance.

Likewise, the features of Bell's palsy is also reportedly known to improve with institution of oral pills of Acyclovir and Prednisone for 2 weeks.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these pills to you.

Polyps require surgical removal at the earliest.

Elevated IgE indicate allergy as the main cause of polyps. It's levels fall after removal of polyps.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

Thanks doctor. The response was very helpful.

I have few questions.

I can hear myself talk loudly in one ear. Could that be because of polyps ? Or it is the palsy causing it. Because palsy hasn't affected me in any other way on the face. It just shows some slight palsy in one ear.

So can I start myself on the medications you prescribed for palsy ? Are there any side effects of that medication ?

Brief Answer:
It's due to palsy

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam.

Resounding into one ear is due to the effect of palsy , although polyps can contribute to some extent.

Yes, you can start the medicationstions I prescribed after consulting your Otolaryngologist.

The side effects of these drugs are minimal as they are used for not more that 2 weeks.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
