Question: My father has pulmonary problems -copd/emphysema and most recently bronchitis. He also has a h/o colon cancer (resolved) . During most recent admission drs. dx'd him with heart problems but were not specific and did no tests, tx ,or rx,d any follow-up care for him. his heartbeat is irregular at times but he has no c/o's of chest pain, etc. His main c/o has been dizziness, hands losing feeling (CTS to me), loss of hearing and fatigue. I am a retired therapist so I keep close watch on him and understand more than mother, that's one of the reasons I'm concerned. My father has COPD and recently has been told he also has heart problems (non-specified). He takes 3 meds with cadizone the main one. his side effects are loss of hearing , lethargy; however, his greatest deficit has been trembling through his extremities. I have looked up his meds and cannot find what is causing this. I am a retired therapist but I need help, please.

Brief Answer: COPD medications or age related Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for your query. I admire your concern. You need to go through his COPD medications thoroughly. Theophylline and long acting beta 2 agonist like formeterol or salmeterol as well short acting bronchodialator like salbutamol or levalbuterol can cause this tremor. Another possibility of this tremor is because of age. You consult a pulmonologist and get him thoroughly examined and take a neurological opinion to exclude neurological causes like Parkinson's disease and also go for a thyroid profile. At the age of 80 years this tremor may also be a common phenomenon especially if it is fine tremor. Thank you Regards Dr Arnab Maji
