What Causes Dizziness With Upper Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea?

Question: there. On the 14th of Feb i woke up at night and my leg was completely numb. I was lying on my back so that was quite alarming for me. I got up quickly and suddenly I became dizzy and nauseous and I had blurred vision. I went to the doctor the next day and my blood and urine was tested. My blood sugar was a bit low and I had a uti so I was put on a hypoglycaemia b diet and I was given a day and a half worth of antibiotics (3 pills). I progressed with the diet but about a week and a half back I started feeling very tired. I felt very tired and run down, was dizzy, hot and cold flashes at night with nausea. I thought it was because of the diet but it got worse instead of bettet.About a week and a half back I went to the emergency room because I just felt that I had enough. I went for a chest scan bacause I waa very fatigued and had a heavy feeling in my chest because of tiredness but everything was normal. I gave a urine and stool sample which was cultured. I also did blood tests which came out normal. The doctor there diagnosed me with an uti and put me on Purbac antibiotis, Kantrexil, Buscopan, Clopamon and Mybulen. she told me to call her in a weeks time to find out what my urine culture results were. In that time I still felt dizzy and run down. I called her last Tuesday and she told me that there was an organism in my bladder and that I had to go fetch a new type of antibiotic that the organism is sensitive to. I wasn't finished with my Purbac so I assume I had to leave it and start with Levofloxacin 500 mg. I am on my last pill and I can't say that I'm feeling a 100%. I still have bouts of dizziness, I have trouble sleeping, I still struggle a bit to eat, I have upper abdominal pain, diarrhoea specifically after I've eaten something and I have cramps in my lower legs - calve area- if I walk around too much. I wonder if it is the side effects of the levofloxacin or if I have another problem that is not part of a uti? Should I go see a physician? I have been booked off for about 4 days but I dread going back to work- I just dont have enough energy. please help and give me your expert advice on my condition. I am a 22 year old female. Regards,XXXX

Brief Answer: Effects of UTI&drugs you use... Detailed Answer: Hi XXXX I have gone through your medical history carefully and feel sorry for the bad situation you are in. Diarrhea and other stomach issues (as you have) are among the side effects of antibiotics (including Purbac, Kantrexil, levofloxacin). Feeling fatigued is also associated to UTI and drugs you use. Feeling dizzy and fatigues is related to UTI, Clopamon use. With regards to cramps in your legs, they might be related to - UTI (especially if protein is found in your urine) - lack of vitamins and minerals (vit.B complex, magnesium, etc) I would advise to: - drink plenty of water to improve diuresis and alleviate the symptoms - take oral O.R.S. to avoid dehydration - take herbal tea for UTI containing uva-ursi, cranberry, fern stone, etc. - start multivitamin supplementation - stop taking Clopamon if you are still taking it. If the symptoms won't improve within a couple of days after stopping Clopamon, should consult your doctor again. Wish fast recovery! Let me know if you have further queries! Dr.Klerida

thank you for the reply! I am finished with my Levofloxacin since yesterday. I dont feel as dizzy anymore but I still feel fatigued and I have a uncomfortable dull pain in my chest/upper abdominal area. My back also gets sore if I sit for a while. Is this still related to my uti? Should I be alarmed about these symptoms? Im stressed because I finished my antibiotics but I still dont feel 100%...

Brief Answer: No need to get alarmed... Detailed Answer: Hi, I am happy to know that you are not dizzy anymore. Feeling fatigued is related to UTI infection. It will reside by time. The uncomfortable dull pain in your chest/upper abdominal area is due to antibiotic use as it might have caused stomach irritation and changes in the intestinal flora. I suggest to continue with diet changes as referred above and to repeat the urine analysis 1 week after stopping the antibiotics. Do not get alarmed. It is normal not to get completely cured after the first course of antibiotics. You might need another course, but should wait at least 1 week after finishing the previous course. Let me know if you have further queries! Dr.Klerida

Thank you for your help so far! I still have the dull ache in my upper abdominal area and I am still very fatigued. I struggle to sleep so I use Zolnox to sleep - I have been using for more than a week now. I went to a heart physician about the fatigue and so and everything is very healthy and normal. he told me that I had uncontrolled stress and that I has to eat healthily and exercise. I am not over weight and I don't smoke or drink. I weigh 53kgs and I am 160cm. I also went to a gynaecologist and he said everything is fine he just sent me for a blood test to get an ovarian profile which I yet have to go to. Since I am reluctant to accept that stress can give me these acute symptoms - pain in upper abdominal area, fatigue, not feeling myself - do you think I need to go see a physician for my gastric area? Can stress make me feel this way and should I be patient ans take it easy? Is this still uti related? im sorry I am so worried.

Brief Answer: Organic pathologies should be ruled out first... Detailed Answer: Hi back, Thank you for following up. If I was your caring doctor would determine that stress is causing all these symptoms only after excluding other organic issues. You are saying to have a dull ache in your upper abdominal area and keep being fatigued. It might be related to: - antibiotic use (making your stomach upset and changing your bowel movements) - UTI that should be checked through urine analysis and culture - genital issues. Must run vaginal swab testing and do the consultation with gynecologist to rule them out. If no UTI or genital issues, then, should consult GI specialist to rule out gastritis, or other GI problems. Depending on the test results, specific treatment will be prescribed. If everything with your GI tract would be ok, then, I'd determine it's because you are in stress. However, should exclude all the other organic issues first as mentioned above. Dr.Klerida
