What Causes Dizziness, Nausea And Mild Headache?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Question: I think I have Meniere's Disease. I have all the symptoms but have not been diagnosed. I have rotational dizziness, nausea, mild headache which lasts half a day or so, followed by fatigue for the next day or two. I had three episodes last week, but I don't have episodes very often. The first time was when I was 32 and the room seemed to be spinning so violently it threw me to the floor. I am 65 now and I have had maybe a dozen episodes during that time, until last week when it happened three times. My question is whether diarrhea is a symptom as well. Could that be a separate issue, could I have something other than Meniere's, or is the diarrhea caused from the nausea? My doctor's appointment is not for three more weeks.

Brief Answer:
Diarrhea is not one of the symptoms!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this Meniere's disease and the diarrhea that you have reported. Talking about diarrhea, you need to have a minimum of 3 bowel movements in 24hours for this to qualify as diarrhea. Can you please tell me what the frequency and consistency of your stools are? This would help in first confirming that for real you have diarrhea and what immediate measures need to be taken. The most important thing to do when having diarrhea is to drink much fluids. Diarrhea can cause an aggravation of Menieres disease or create confusion because it causes dehydration that can lead to dizziness, vertigo, etc.

In all, diarrhea is not one of the symptoms of Menieres. Diarrhea through dehydration can mimic this disease state because of symptoms of dehydration related to decreased blood volume.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well and thank you so much or using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
