default
Posted on Mon, 7 Mar 2016
Question: I was diagnosied with Blastomycosis almost 5 months ago and am on treatment it. I see a lung specialist for this. He said I also have the beginning stages of COPD. However, ever sense I have been on the medication for the Blastoe, I don't have as many symptoms of COPD. I asked him about this. He said, it ma have been the Blastoe causing the COPD symptoms. However, I have been having dizzy spells...feeling of falling. My hands, and sometomes my feet go numb. ITs scary. I just don't feel right. He says he cant explain that.

Brief Answer:
Get done blood pressure monitoring and MRI brain to rule out brain pathology

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Blastomycosis , is an fungal infection.

It can infect brain and this can cause dizziness, feeling of frequent fall.
Another possibility is low blood pressure.

So better to consult your local physician and get done

1. Blood pressure monitoring.
2. MRI brain.
3. Also get done serum electrolytes (sodium and potassium).

In my opinion, you should also get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out COPD.

So please let me know if you had PFT done or not.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.

Thanks.

I do have high blood pressure. And am on medication for it. Also, had a MRI done. That was all good. I also had pulmonary testing done. It showed the start of COPd. However, my lung Dr said it may have been from the Blastoe?

I do have a blood pressure kit here so I will check my blood pressure on a regular basis. The COPD Dr believes is from smoking cigarettes. When I had the testing done, my lung capacity was at 93%. This was @ 5 months ago. The Blastoe is from the unknown? In XXXXXXX county, where I recently moved from, Blastoe is well known from the River being drained after the paper mill closed down. It isn't just the dizziness. Its also numbness in my arms. And pain across my chest. It feels as if I pulled a muscle in my chest....so I think that could be causing the pain in my left arm. The dizziness I have been enduring even before I was diagnosed with the Blastoe. It has been on going for @ a year. Has gotten less since I was out on medication for the Blastoe. I also went to the eye Dr this past Friday, and found out that I have cadaracs due to the steroids I was on from the Blastoe....I have spots on my left lung. However, because of taking predisone for over 6 weeks, the spots are almost gone.

Brief Answer:
First get done ecg and 2d echo.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should first get done ecg and 2d echo to rule out heart diseases because you are hypertensive and having chest pain and left arm pain.
So heart diseases mist be ruled out first.
And you never told me that your are smoker.
Smoking is biggest risk factor for COPD. It can also cause Blastomycosis. Smoking actually reduces lung defence.
So please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone ecg and 2d echo?
2. How many cigarettes you smoke in a day?
3. Do you have breathlessness on exertion?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I am not sure what a ecg is but no, i never had a ed echo. I smoke about a half a pack of cigerettes a day. I can, at times, get breathlessness, yes.

I was not aware that smoking could cause blastoe.

Brief Answer:
Ecg is electro cardio gram.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Ecg is electro cardio gram. It is screening tool for heart diseases.
Echocardiography is also a screening tool for heart diseases.
And smokers are tend to develop heart diseases.
So quit smoking as soon as possible. Get done ecg and 2d echo.
And yes, smoking cause decrease in lung defense. So unusual infection like fungal infection can be seen in smokers.
So quit smoking. This is not good habit.
