What Causes Dizziness And Numbness When On Roprinirole, Lovastatin And Quetiapine?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: Last night after taking roprinirole 2mg, lovastatin 10 mg, quetiapine 100 mg., which I take every night, and Methocarbamol 500 mg. (can't remember if I took two pills, which would be 1000 mg.) Benzonatate 200mg., and Acetaminophen/cod #3 (300/30MG), within a few minutes after taking these, the top surface of my tongue became numb, and I was very dizzy and nauseated. I had been taking these new meds for a few days, though not necessarily all at once. What is the cause of the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Numbness of the tongue-drug induced

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Numbness of the tongue with prescription medication is more likely to be due to a side effect or drug interaction.Out of the drugs taken by you ,3 tablets of codeine (narcotics) may cause abnormal sensations when exposed to the tissue of the tongue. Also it is known to cause dizziness and nausea.

I am sorry, I know I didn't make it clear about the codeine. I just copied the info from the bottle. I only took one half of a tablet. I have been taking this for over a week, and yes, it has caused a little dizziness and nausea, but nothing like last night. I couldn't walk straight and the nausea was much worse than normal, and that, with the numbness on my tongue, came on within a few minutes, maybe 5 to 10 min. at the most. Once I got to my room, about 20 feet down the hall, I couldn't walk anywhere else for fear of falling or collapsing and/or vomiting. Is there a reason why I had such a drastic difference in the reaction last night?

Brief Answer:
Poly pharmacy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Methocarbamol, a skeletal muscle relaxant is the other drug which you might have taken 2 tablets equivalent to 1000 mg can cause CNS side effect like dizziness,light-headedness and some metallic taste in tongue.
Quetiapine ,an antipsychotic and lovastatin, cholesterol lowering agents both have also CNS side effects like dizziness and can only compounded the dizziness feeling. Lovastatin can also cause alteration of taste albeit effect on tongue.
Instead of taking all these drugs clubbed together you may pace out the drugs.Poly pharmacy always have the possibility of complex drug interaction, often not documented in literature.
