Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to irritable bowel syndrome and gastritis (or gastro-esophageal reflux).

I do not think that your symptoms are related to any cardiac disorders. The pounding heart may be just a normal reaction to the chest pain and to the abdominal tenderness due to the gas, causing a slight elevation of the diaphragm and thus an increased heart rate.

So, relax and do not worry about it!

As your endoscopy has revealed severe gastritis, it can explain the chest pain in the upper right side of your chest.

Have you tried taking a PPI (omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, etc.) today?

If you have not done this, I recommend taking 20mg of omeprazole (Prilosec).

I would also recommend taking simethicone (Mylicon, Phazyme) three times daily to reduce gas in your bowel and reduce the tenderness.

I recommend follow up with your doctor regarding the treatment of severe gastritis, in order to avoid further progression to ulcer.

Some diet modifications (avoid spicy food, eat frequently in small portions) are also necessary.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask me again whenever you need!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Thank you for the additional information.

I recommend you to continue take pantoprazole at this dose.

Modifying your diet will help improve your situation. I would also recommend avoiding coffee and alcohol, which can trigger the situation.

It is necessary eating a balanced diet with a lot of fibers and avoid acid or spicy food.

Some distension is normal after upper endoscopy. So, relax and do not worry about it. Your situation will improve gradually in the next days.

Let me know about everything!

Regards,

Dr. Iliri

I had a bowel movement and have been passing gas but my stomach is still a little sore. Could this be from the biopsies? I feel somewhat better with a heating pad on.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

I am glad you are feeling better!

Yes, it is true that the sore stomach could be related to the biopsies. You should know that they can cause a little irritation of the stomach for some days.

But, it is just temporary and you will feel better soon.

I recommend continue taking pantoprazole and avoiding spicy food and soda drinks.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
