What Causes Delay In Periods In Women With PCOD?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: Hello doctor,

Issue - Delay in period; normal date - 6th/7th of every month

History - I was suffering from PCOD(Cyst) in 2013-14. Medicinal treatment was being taken for regularizing periods.
The problem got cured post my marriage in March 14.

Recent development - In Nov-Dec 14, I was having swelling in my lower abdomen... for which I consulted a gynecologist. No problem with period at that point of time, also she said that it was nothing but body fat. However, on consultation she observed that I am experiencing burning and irritation during physical contact and urination.
She gave a few medicines for 10 days. (attaching picture of prescription)

Now in January no period have came till now. I doubt if the medicines have reacted or something.

Brief Answer:
Get a preg test done first..if negative, then stress is the cause.explained

Detailed Answer:
hello,
Thanks for contacting HCM
IF your periods have been regularized after marriage since MARCH 2014 after having undergone treatment for PCOS , then at present due to burning while urinating you may have been given a course of urinary antibiotics for a period of 10 days and if any discharge per vaginum had been seen then probably antifungal medications as well.
But under no circumstances , do these antibiotics can cause delay or stoppage of menses. But yes, stress over body due to infection can possibly cause a delay due to hormonal imbalances.
If your periods are not resumed in these 7 days then you may perform a urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy first . If the test is negative then you may choose to wait till 15 days post missed period safely to resume your menses.

If even after 15 days periods don't resume then you should go for an ultrasound pelvis to look for thickened endometrium and absence of pregnancy. IF Endometrial thickness is more than 10mm then you can opt for a withdrawal bleed with progestins like Medroxyprogesterone acetate , to resume your menses safely.
I hope i have answered your query in detail,
wishing you good health,
regards
