Both discharge material should be sampled and sent for culture sensitivity testing. Antibiotics should be started thereafter and adjusted according to the culture reports when available. Regardless of the cause, the dark area around the anus should require ruling out any malignant disorder. Local examination including a digital rectal exam should be done to look for the need of sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy especially if its not been done previously or screening time has elapsed in between.
