Question: I am on day 3 and half of cephalex 500mg 4 x per day for cellulitis of the foot. Swelling is way down, no pain, no fever (ever) but really dark, purple, angry area and skin wound is not mending. Is this normal for healing??
Also has been itchy rather than painful!

Brief Answer:
Normal healing process.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic. From your description of your foot, I would consider there has been progress in the healing process and you are seeing the beneficial effects of the antibiotics. Of particular significance is the improvement in swelling and pain. The appearance of the skin will take some time more to improve towards normal. It may be another few weeks before it is back to its normal appearance. The itching is also normal when a wound is healing. It is important you follow the instructions with the antibiotics and complete the course. Raising your leg when resting will help the swelling.
I hope you are reassured. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you so much. Very reassuring. Based on what I have researched, also consistent. My boyfriend is alarmed at the appearance as he loves my feet/legs (this was a vanity injury from shoes!), but I remain hopeful for a good recovery. All best, XXXXXXX
