Brief Answer:
It may be smoker`s cough.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Your symptom doesn't appear to point towards any major ailment since you have not mentioned any other symptom.

When you are up and about, all the natural secretions of your throat are drained by gravity and swallowing reflex. When you are lying down the secretions accumulate in the throat and they irritate the sensitive mucosa of your throat causing you to cough. It may be more pronounced in your case as smoking destroys the cilia of respiratory tract and as a result secretions are not cleared by this natural clearing mechanism and accumulate in the throat. It is also called `smoker`s cough`.

Do you have any allergy to dust and smoke or do you have heart burn?

You should stop smoking straight away. Take a montair lc and a pan 40 after consulting your local doctor.
