What Causes Cough And Burning Sensation Behind Throat After Taking Medication?
Question: i took pills and i coughed when i took them Now I have a burning sensation in the bottom of my throat and i coughed a few times. Am I ok?
Brief Answer:
Pill erosion /esophagitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Based on your description, it appears to be a mild erosion or esophagitis induced by improper swallowing of the pills. If you don't have any breathing problems and the cough subsides then you should drink at least 500 ml of water to flush the pill down. If the burning sensation persists, Sucralfate and PPI like esomeprazole can be taken in consult with your doctor for adequate relief. If you have breathing problem and intractable cough then please go to an E.R to rule out any respiratory tract compromise.
