What Causes Constant Fatigue While On Cymbalta, Effexor And Dexedrine?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Dec 2015
Question: My doctor put me on Cymbalta in XXXXXXX for anxiety and depression. Last week as I was still very fatigued he added Effexor. I am taking 120 milligrams of Cymbalta at night time along with 150 milligrams of Effexor. I also take one-half a tablet of Zoplicone for sleeping. I am so fatigued during the day that I am unable to function and I need help. I was fatigued prior to XXXXXXX so my doctor put me on Dexedrine which I could not take at all because of heart flutters. First of all, can you please tell me why someone is fatigued, all of my blood tests were normal.

Brief Answer:
fatigue is due to cymbalta likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Fatigue is very common side effect of cymbalta and approximately 10% of the patients experience the fatigue while taking cymbalta. You are on highest dose of cymbalta 120 mg. So it is almost clear that your fatigue is due to cymbalta provided all blood investigations are normal.

In addition to this Effexor (venlafaxine) increases the level or effect of Cymbalta (duloxetine) by affecting hepatic enzyme CYP2D6 metabolism. So chances of more fatigue are there.

This side effect can be confirmed by reducing/stopping cymbalta. If fatigue improves on reducing/stopping cymbalta there is no need to search for other cause.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
