What Causes Constant Cough With Mucus When Diagnosed With Asthmatic Bronchitis?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Dec 2015
Question: I am 55 years old. At birth I was diagnosed with Asthmatic Bronchitis. I was put on allergy shots which had no lasting affects.
I am not allergic to any items per my last test.
My problem is that for 55 years I cough clear, thick mucus out of my lungs. I do not smoke.
This may sound strange but the last doctor I went to did all the test regiments and I sampled about 30 medicines that had no effects. He said I was the worst case he had ever seen and said he had one last option. He sprayed liquid cocaine in my nose and it cleared me up. He was going to write a prescription but I did not want to become an addict.
Presently I live a normal life. I cannot go run a marathon but live well except the agrivation of the constant coughing up mucus. It ceases at night while sleeping but resumes all day.
Do I have an infection that never healed? Is there any medicine on the market now that will eliminate the excess mucus?
I would like to find something without side effects. One medicine I took caused my eyesight to make me wear reading glasses the first time I took it.
I appreciate your imput.

Brief Answer:
You can take N acetyl cysteine (NAC).

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion you should start mucolytic, expectorant and antioxidant drugs.
N acetyl cysteine (NAC) is such drug.
It is good drug and not having much side effects.
You can also take syrup with combination of bromhexien, levosalbutamol and ambroxol.
These will also loosen your secretions and made them easy ti cough out.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Would I have to take the medicine all the time or will it resolve the issue short term?
It seems like the mucus faucet never turns off during the day but does at night.

Brief Answer:
You should take NAC twice daily.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Ideally, NAC should be taken thrice daily.
But you should take it twice daily. Take it for 10-15 days. Once you are feeling good then you can take it ti once daily.
Better to take it for long time for good beneficial effects.
You can also take syrup for long time. No harm in it.
Hope I have solved your query.
