Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: My chest has started hurting. About a 6 on a 10 scale. I have been in the hospital about 2-3 months ago with diverticulitus. Recently, i havent been able to hold my poop or pee and I get deep pain in my lower abdomen. There is also blood in my stool. I do take medicine for anxiety so perhaps the chest pain is that i dont know. But when I do make a bowl movement, I feel like I ran a marathon. should i be seen immediately? make an appt or go er? do not feel right at all

Brief Answer:
Go to ER for chest pain to exclude heart issues

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As you are having chest pain, that's an emergency, and should go to ER to exclude heart problems through:
- chest X-ray
- ECG
- cardiac echo
- cardiac enzymes.

With regards to blood in stool and other abdominal complaints, they are related to diverticulitis, not an emergency, but should schedule an appointment with your GI specialist for further evaluations.

Hope it helped!
