Brief Answer:
not normal but

Detailed Answer:
difficult to say what the exact problem might be. Cannot diagnose treat or prescribe without being there but can give relevant information.

There are different parts to the chest. There are the joints connecting the ribs to the sternum. They get irritated easily and hurt with deep breathing and with cough and with local pressure. Aspirin and aspirin like drugs are probably the best drugs for that.

You can get irritation of the joints OR the muscles between the ribs with exercise/deep breathing/cigarettes.

The lungs themselves can get irritated, BUT the cell phone would be a total coincidence. And, the pain is deep in the lung and you probably would have noticed that already.

In theory one can get a bruise, a blood blister, or scarring that can organize after an injury and the area is stuck together and movement increases pain in the area. That is quite RARE in that location.

Some areas take a month or two to heal (breast and sternum) but a year would be quite unusual.

Brief Answer:
There are certain characteristics of the pain

Detailed Answer:
that can be explored immediately... effects of breathing/touching/bending that localize pain. Aspirin like drugs and if it goes away then there isn't a problem.

But if it is an irritated lung (burning in character, changes in breathing, shortness of breath, etc.) then it is a condition that needs treatment but probably is Not associated with the phone.

On the surface, or in rib joints and improving over time.... probalby not going to be much to do. Can get a chest x-ray, and in the majority, won't show anything. But again, that pre-supposes it is getting better and not worse

worsening chronic pain needs evaluation. Can start with an internist.
