What Causes Burning Sensation In Chest And Throat While Nursing Baby?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Hi- I just took a pill and a half (150mg) of sertraline (Zoloft) along with a prenatal vitamin. I took them with water- but not a full glass. Afterwards I nursedy six month old and began feeling a strange burning sensation in my chest and the back of my throat. I have never experienced a severe burning feeling like this before. Did it get stuck and cause this reaction?

Brief Answer:
ECG and the things as suggested

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I can understand the plight you must be going through.
The history of strange burning sensation in the chest and the back of throat can be due to the following reasons:
- Reflux of the stomach contents and acid cause the similar problem and is the commonest cause.
- ECG should always be done to rule out cardiac cause. This can be an odd presentation.
- The pill getting struck and causing such a problem is a possibility although very rarely heard of.
- Go to ER.
- Get a PPI and Antacid, see if this helps.
- If ECG is normal and other parameters do not suggest any cause, and there is no relief, Upper GI Endoscopy may be needed to see the exact cause of your symptoms.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications if you feel there is a gap of communication.
