Brief Answer:
What prompts you to think of Temporal arteritis?Tell me these details:

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I fully understand, a son's concerns for his mother, but I was just wondering if there is any pointer in history which prompts you to think of Temporal arteritis?

Was she having complaints of headache, fatigue, fever, jaw claudication, weight loss or appetite loss?
Any other episode of transient loss of vision, followed by recovery in the past?

Any other disease or significant medical history?

Moreover,Did you get a brain or orbital imaging(CT or MRI scan) done for her, after this event?

I would be looking forward to your follow-up query with details,so that I can interpret the symptoms, in light of background history.

Regards

Brief Answer:
Needs a physical examination/Ophthalmological examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

The symptoms of weight loss and appetite loss, though significant, are not indicative of Temporal arteritis in the absence of history of headache or loss of vision in the past.

However,in view of definite history of significant weight and appetite loss and a dilated fixed pupil,it becomes mandatory to examine her physically. This diagnosis is unlikely to be settled just on the basis of historical description.

So,I suggest that you should take her to a physician for examination and an ophthalmologist for eye examination.

If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer them.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
