What Causes Brown Coloured Urine After Instertion Of Stent?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: I had surgery 5 days ago on a kidney stone, stent was inserted, and the ureter was very small. My urine was bright red yesterday now it's brown..The doctor is running a urine culture but he doesn't know about the color..Should he be aware of this? Is something to be concerned about? I feel very fatigued, moderate pain. urine should be blue after taking Uribel and it isn't changing. Why is this happening?

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried about.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

The color in your urine is acceptable since it has only been a few days after your surgery. The bright red changing to brown means that there is no more active bleeding and that there is now passage of formed lysed blood clots

This occurrences would happen occasionally due to the presence of the internal stent inside your ureter and will cause some form of micro abrasions thereby may lead to minimal bleeding. These are also acceptable and not a cause of concern
