Question: MY HUSBAND JUST TOLD ME HE NOTICED BLOOD IN THE URINE - HE'S BEEN ON ANTIBIOTICS DUE TO DIVERTICULITIS - COULD THE BLOOD BE THE CAUSED OF THAT

ANTIBIOTICS HE'S TAKEN - FLAGYL 500 MG EVERY 12 HRS AND LEVAQUIN 500MG ONCE A DAY

Hello,

although levaquin may cause hematuria, it's not a common side effect and other more probable causes will have to be excluded first. Blood in the urine without urinary tract symptoms are suggestive of tumors. Radiological evaluation of the urinary tract is recommended. Starting with an ultrasound scan sounds appropriate. If he had symptoms like burning pain when urinating or flank pain then obstruction or infection of the urinary tract are possible. A urinalysis and ultrasound scan would be a good next step of investigation.
