What Causes Blood In Stool And Constipation While On Metamucil?

Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: I had a few episodes of blood in my stool several weeks ago. I recently experienced a bought of diarrhea, followed by some constipation which was relieved by taking Metamucil. I went to my MD who gave me a digital rectal exam and I have a few hemorrhoids, no blood in my stool. They did a complete blood work up with normal results so all looks good there. She said if I started to have nausea and vomiting I should seek medical attention. I suffer from anxiety so now when I eat I am convinced I am nauseous, it does not last long. I have no blood in my stool and no abdominal pain. I have a follow up visit with my MD next Tuesday. My question is what could the nausea mean or be caused from?

Brief Answer:
Nausea is caused by anxiety or gut infection. Do this to get better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

I am Dr. Neel Kudchadkar and I will help you. I have examined your question thoroughly and being your personal doctor I will handle all your medical issues. The fact is that when you had a bout of loose motions, you were probably had an infection. This is true. I have noted that you have undergone all the medical lab investigations and they reveal nothing. Your main worry is nausea. This can be caused if the infection is not completely cured and a few germs still exist. I have noted that you have visited a doctor as regards blood in the stool. The internal piles do not have anything to do with your current complaint of nausea. Furthermore, you have mentioned that you have been anxious as a result of all these events. Anxiety can also cause nausea. I suggest that you take these two
medicines 1) Pantoprazole 2) Domperidone. These will immediately stop your nausea. I suggest that you take a course of a probiotic like Lactobacillus tablets. This will immensely help you. As regards the internal piles causing the bleeding, I suggest that you use Framycetin cream with a special anal applicator (that comes with the cream). These are quite sufficient. Keeping this in mind, maintain a diet of bulk producers. I would suggest an iron supplement to compensate for the past losses of blood.

You're OK now.

You can ask me further queries.

Thanks for your questions.

Have a great day.

Would the infection have caused the bleeding? Would taking probiotics be a benefit?

Brief Answer:
Probiotics will get you back in shape.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Again!

The infection most probably would not cause such bleeding.
Probiotics are great to shape up and tone up your gut.
