What Causes Bleeding And Pain During Urination?
Question: Hello again, Dr. Panagiotis. When I had the bleeding and pain at the end of urinating on Saturday, does this mean the UTI infection was irritating the urethra? Although I had a similar infection 17 years ago, is it possible that this time it was low grade for a long time before this week?.
Should I be concerned that this infection involves the prostate?! My PSA is very low.
And the bleeding itself subsided even before I started Cipro . Thanks.

Brief Answer:
bleeding is expected in UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
the most common symptoms of a lower UTI (cystitis) are frequency, urgency and bleeding, so bleeding is expected and should not worry you, unless very profound. Bleeding is not a measure of severity.
The very low PSA is against prostatic involvement. Cipro treats both, although the prostate would need longer duration of treatment.

Kind Regards!
