What Causes Ballooning Of The Foreskin Of Penis While Urinating?

Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015
Question: My son is three years old and his weight is 13.5 kg. I have noticed ballooning of foreskin while passing urine. This I have noticed 2 years back. I thought this go off as he grows. But its not.

Two days back he complained pain while passing urine, so I consulted a paediatrician. He told that, a small procedure is required to open the passage so that urine flows freely.

What kind of procedure it that? Is is really required? I am worried as he too young to undergo any surgery. Please advice. I am attaching his urine routine report and consultation notes.

Brief Answer:
Procedure is circumscission

Detailed Answer:
Hi.. By what you quote I feel that the procedure which your doctor has in mind is circumscission. This is a day care procedure. Excess and tight foreskin of the penis is removed in this.

To decide whether if it is really required I need some images. I request you to stretch the fore skin of the penis of the kid and take an image and upload it here.

The urine routine report though is showing abnormal count of pus cells - the nitrites are negative and there is no fever - so no need to worry. This is a normal report please.

Brief Answer:
I WILL SUGGEST AN OINTMENT

Detailed Answer:
Hi... He has tight prepuce and he needs management. I appreciate you for uploading the images exactly as I had wanted.

Previously for this the main stay of treatment was surgery and circumscission. But now a day s we are using an ointment and it is very effective for opening it up.

My suggetions for your son -

1. Apply Fucibet ointment twice a day at the region. You have to apply it by stretching the skin exactly as you have done in the image from top to bottom all the way stretching the skin. This will open the skin up and releive the tightness.

2. This you have to do for 4 weeks and get back to me with the images again so that I can guide you further after 4 weeks of using the ointment.

3. If in 4 weeks treatment it is not opening satisfactorily then as a second option we can go ahead with the surgery - circumcision.

Hope you have understood my point. Feel free to get back if there is any doubt in this.
After 4 weeks you can get back to me at the following link.
