Brief Answer:
many ways to help you

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Diabetics tend to get peripheral neuropathy a numbness and sometimes tingling sensation in the legs. This can cause balance problems. Also if your sugars are high you will tend to be dehydrated all the time because the high sugars pull all the fluids out of your system. If is important to keep your sugars well controlled and to drink plenty of water. Diabetics are also at risk for heart disease and swollen legs can be a sign of heart disease. Please see your doctor as soon as possible. Physical therapy may be able to help you with your balance. You really want to work on that so that you do not fall and get hurt. It has also been shown that exercises like Tai Chi can help people with their balance, but you do not want to try that until you feel fairly stable. The best place to start is with your doctor and a physical therapist that specializes in balance. Occasionally balance problems can come from the middle ear. Seeing a neurologist or ENT physician may be able to sort that out if none of these suggestions help you.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
