What Causes Arm Pain, Fever, Lyme Disease And Intermittent Headaches?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Aug 2015
Question: About 2 months ago I went on a trip to Europe where I visited several countries and I hiked around a bit. After one of the trips, about 3 days later I experienced some arm pain which I thought were muscle pains. They were on my forearm close to my elbow with 1 arm feeling the pain and then a few days later my other arm felt the pain too. I think I had a fever and headache for 1 day or so but that was it. The arm pain lasted for 2 weeks and then it stopped but sometimes I have headaches from time to time, I was wondering if maybe I got lyme disease but I didn't see any red bites with target marks. I did feel on my head a bump that hurt a little bit when I touched it so maybe I had gotten bitten on the head. I was wondering what you think of this situation since it has been 2 months now if it is something I should be worried out or should get checked out.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are mild and will subside gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms that you are having are mild ones and cam be due to a chronic Lyme's infection. Such mild symptoms usually subside on their own in few weeks. I want you to be aware of warning symptoms like gradual muscle weakness, numbness, tingling in limbs, persistent fever or lymphadenpathy. In case any of these symptoms appear then further evaluation and treatment is necessary.
I would advise that you support your body with good hydration, adequate sleep, a well-balanced diet and a moderate exercise regimen. Exercise is actually good for the immune system which is why I suggest it here. In addition you can supplement your diet with some Vitamin C - 1000 mg daily and consider drinking some immune boost type of tea such as Echinacea which is readily available at most supermarkets.

I expect your symptoms to gradually level off and improve over the next week or two. In the event that this does not occur, I suggest you visit with your primary physician for a complete physical exam and possibly some blood work as well. In the meantime, try not to worry about this and focus on maintaining good health as I have recommended with diet, fluid intake and exercise as well as adequate sleep (7-9 hours per night).

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
