What Causes A Spreading Rash N The Legs Continuing Onto The Arms, Back And Torso?
Question: My daughter who is 20 and away at College has a rash that is flat, it does not itch or burn. It started on her legs and now has spread to her arms, back and torso. She has had blood test that show nothing. She was given Prednisone that helped it a lot but never cleared it up. Now she's on an antibiotic for last 3 days called Cephalexin that is not helping at all. Dermatologist doesn't know and is just trying different things. Rash is not clustered together but looks like flat spots on all parts of body described above. started in beginning of April.

Below is what my daughter sent back to me.
No fever cough or sore throat. I was on minocycline but I stopped taking it. No other ailments. It started with one spot on my arm and then spread. My legs have the worst of it but it's continuing to spread I stopped taking medication about 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Either pityriasis rosea or sarcoidosis or granuloma annulare
Detailed Answer:
According to your complaints there are few possibilities:
either pityriasis rosea which is an allergic reaction to drugs and food or sarcoidosis or granuloma annulare.
If I was her treating doctor I would recommend her to take tablet aciclovir 800 mg four times in a day for 5 days and apply cortisone cream diluted in a moisturising lotion in the ratio of 1:3 twice daily for 7-10 days.
Oral aciclovir is a prescription drug and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
If the rash doesn't improve in a week's time go for skin biopsy of lesions to find out its exact cause.
