So we are starting on a Z pack tomorrow. However my boyfriend swears he does not have it yet he's the only one in several months that I have an unprotected sex with. Over the last few months we have an anal, vaginal, and oral sex if I am infected will he be infected?

Brief Answer:
Your boyfriend has very high probability to have been already infected.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your boyfriend has a very high probability of being infected by chlamydia (as you had anal, vaginal and oral sex).

Almost 50% of male infected partners are totally asymptomatic (do not show any signs of infection at all). So, the fact , your boyfriend denies the possibility of chlamydia infection should not be taken in consideration, if not demonstrated by clinical lab tests.

It is highly recommended that your boyfriend undergo examination for chlamydia in urethral, oro-pharyngeal specimens, as well as a urine test for chlamydial nucleic acid (NAAT)

It is mandatory that you both be treated appropriately.

If after medical investigations, results that you have a lower or uncomplicated genital infection, then the course of treatment is shorter than when dealing with an upper or complicated genital infection (in the latter case, treatment may last as long as 14 days, depending on the prescribed drug).

I recommend you to be very meticulous, when dealing with chlamydia infection treatment, as it may be complicated with severe conditions, like pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, etc.

I would recommend for both of you to rule out other possible sexually transmitted infections as well, because they commonly coexist (have the same risk factors for transmission).

Meanwhile, you should avoid unprotected sex, if not at all, during treatment period.

Hope to have been helpful.

Feel free to ask me whenever you need. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
