What Casues Bowels Obstruction?

Question: A month ago, I started having a severe pain in my abdomen area in the front on the left side that radiated to my back. It got so bad, I had my husband take me to the E.R. They did a sonagram and said it's not gall stones. They determined I had a blockage in my intestine (constipation) and gave me magnesium cytrate (or something like that) to drink. Told me to drink Metamucil 3 times a day. 3 days later, I still had severe pain, went back to the E.R. That Dr. had me to drink some white milky stuff and did a CT scan and said my small intestine had quit working and after the test, threw it all up. Gave me a prescription (pills) to take. 3 days after that I'm still having extreme pain so I return to the E.R. for the 3rd time and was admitted to the hospital to do a scope down through the throat. They said they couldn't find anything. Went to my primary Dr. Monday and informed him I was having severe pain that now went all the way around me and it felt like I had an intertube under my skin. I also told him I thought I had parasites because I saw them in my stool. He had me do a stool test Tuesday. I have excrutiating pain at certain times, especially when trying to lie down at night. It now feels like there is fluid in my back that sloshes when I turn over and it is excrutiating until finally it feels like it settles, then the pain subsides. What is wrong with me?

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms clearly indicate bowels obstruction. At your age (over 50) any case of bowels obstruction (when not caused by a hernia) should be checked with possible colon cancer. Please note that the over the age of 50 the risk of this cancer significantly rises. Therefore every person over this age should have colonoscopy every 10 years. Colonoscopy should be also done in any time when symptoms appear.
Your symptoms may be caused by a tumor in the large intestine. So it is quite surprising that doctors didnt perform colonoscopy at your case.

I suggest you to do not wait any longer. Please consult a surgeon or gastrologist and get colonoscopy done as soon as possible.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
