What Are The Withdrawal Symptoms Of Protonix?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I was prescribed Protonix 40mg 2x per day, plus Pepcid at night, all for six weeks. Towards the end of the six weeks, and then once off the drugs, I developed dizziness, brain fog, tingling in hands and feet, and numbness in toes, and weakness in arms. I have now been off for three weeks and symptoms, which have improved some, are still with me. How long will they last?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are due to underlying condition, and will last till it is treated

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Some of the symptoms you have mentioned are due to a rebound acid reflux that could be caused due to the gradual reduction or discontinuation of the medications you were on, but not all these symptoms match that suspicion.

It is important to know why you were prescribed the medications in the first place. None of the medications you were on have any withdrawal symptoms, and so none of the listed symptoms are due to the discontinuation of these medications.

Keeping the above mentioned points in mind, the most likely cause for your symptoms is your underlying condition and so these symptoms may last for as long as the condition is present and left untreated. This means I cannot predict for how much longer your symptoms will last sir. You need to discuss your diagnosis and treatment with your treating doctor at the earliest.

In the meantime please do consider the following suggestions:

+Avoid alcohol
+Avoid stress
+Avoid smoking
+Avoid spicy food
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Drink plenty of water
+Avoid fatty/fried/oily food

I hope you find my response helpful sir. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you further.

Best wishes.
