What Are The Withdrawal Symptoms Of Lorazepam?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: I was detoxed 2 1/2 years ago and am still having problems. My problems are that my insides are shaking and it feels like some put a hose in me and as a result I feel like i can't move. I went to a detox center in Statesboro, Ga (recommended by St. Jos/Candler in Savannah) and that the the first big mistake I made. After coming of the dextox center, I went to the Re on Hilton Head Island on a few occasions and they said they could not help me. I then went to Beaufort Memorial and they could not find anything wrong. As I write this my insides are jumping and I cannot feel a chair under me. When I wake up in the AM, my whole body is very stiff and I am this way all day. I hope you can help me and understand me.The drug that I was dextoxed from was Lorazepam (Ativan),

Brief Answer:
Such symptoms can occur due to protracted withdrawal of benzodiazepines

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

Yes, I can understand your problem. If we consider physiological reactions of drug dependence then if any individual stops or reduces any drug doses after prolonged drug intake he/she may suffer acute withdrawal symptoms. These withdrawal symptoms are prevented by reducing the drug gradually or by replacing the drug with some less harmful drugs especially in detox centres. You have passed that acute and most difficult phase of drug detox. But the drug you was taking was LORAZEPAM which is a Benzodiazepine drug. Some times even after years of passing acute withdrawal syndrome individuals continue to feel mild craving, restlessness, or weird sensations like symptoms. This is called as PROTRACTED WITHDRAWAL symptoms. The feelings and symptoms you are having are probably due to that withdrawal only.

As per my opinion these symptoms like insides are jumping can be managed by adding some non-dependence producing anti anxiety drug or by some anti craving drug. Drugs like Pregabalin, Gabapentine or Baclofen etc can help. These drugs will reduce the symptoms. There is no need to worry for all these symptoms, most of patients presenting in my OPD after benzodiazepines detox show such symptoms and report improvement with these medicines. Visit a psychiatrist for help.

Thanks, hope this helps you. If you have more doubts please ask again.
