Brief Answer:
Rhabdomylolysis symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxx, thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. The rnhabdomylosis means muscle damage and death. It can present with

: Muscle pain or myalgia, especially in the shoulders, thighs or lower back
: Muscle weakness or trouble moving arms or legs
: Abdominal pain if abdominal muscle damage
: Nausea or vomiting due to electrolyte imbalance, pain, weakness
: Fever, rapid heart rate due to systemic reaction, concentrated blood
: Confusion, dehydration, fever, or lack of consciousness due to electrolyte imbalance, brain blood supply block, enecephalopathy
: Dark red or brown urine; reduced or no urine output due to secretion of myoglobin and proteins in urine

The use of Lipitor or Atrorvastatin can cause
: Weakness and damage of muscles
: Abdominal girth increase due to weight gain

But these side effects subside in few weeks after discontinuing the drug. If you have doubt of rhabdomyolysis, you should consult doctor. He will examine your muscles, urine for myoglobin, may advise USG of selective muscles to see any swelling/bleeding in muscles. In case of confusion, he might advise
"Muscle biopsy"

Hope it will help you. Still in doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.

I FOUND YOUR ANSWER VERY INTERESTING AND TO THE POINT, BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED SOME, BUT NOT ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS. I AM HOPING THAT NOW THAT I AM NOT TAKING ANY STATINS ANYMORE THESE SYMPTOMS WILL GO AWAY. BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DOCTORS DIDN'T WARN ME ABOUT THESE SIDE EFFECTS (I ALSO HAD A "FROZEN SHOULDER" FOR ABOUT A YEAR, AND PAIN IN MY NECK NOW) AND DIDN'T SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT MY COMPLAINTS. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT RHABDOMYOLYSIS?

Brief Answer:
Frozen shoulder and rhabdomyolysis

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxx, welcome back.

Thanks for the appreciation. As you have stopped statins, the rhabdomyolysis will stop. But the already done damage will take time to heal. In case of frozen shoulder, it can get aggravated by rhabdomyolysis. So you must remain careful in future.

You can measure recovery by getting your urine test for myoglobin level. In rhabdomyolysis, it increases. But in recovery process, its level will decrease progressively. Also you will feel gradual recovery in your muscle strength.

Hope it will help you. If still any doubt, do let me know.

Thanks. Take care.
