What Are The Side Effects Of Venlafaxine?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Feb 2016
Question: I was on Venlafaxine for over a year. I stopped it gradually because of unwanted side effects. I have been off it completely since Dec. 2 I am still experiencing buzzing in the ears, what seems like a scratchy sound in my head and sensitive eyes. Is this still side effects from the drug? If so, how long does this last?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Buzzing in ears

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Each person is different and can respond in unique ways to a drug. However, buzzing in ears is not at all a common side effect reported with venlafaxine which is a bicyclic antidepressant.

You need to consult an ENT doctor to examine the ear and nose. A grossly deviated nasal septum interfering with the Eustachian tube function can also lead to buzzing, ringing or tinnitus in the ear. An infectious cause should be looked for. Decongestants , antihistamines and even mucolytics like n acetylcysteine have been used to relieve Eustachian tube blockage.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
