Question: Hi Doctor

My 3 yrs 11 month son was down with a viral fever, the doctor prescribed Taxim O Forte 100 mg, dosage 5ml-----0-----5ml, morning and night.

I gave him a dose of 5ml thrice a day, worried if this will affect his health, he weighs 16.7 kg.

Please advice.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
thanks for writing to us.
Don't worry.
The usual dose of cefixime is 8mg per kg per day.
But for typhoid fever, doses upto 20mg per kg perday can be given.
You have given 300mg daily which is less than 20mg per kg .
So don't worry.
Reduce next dose to 5ml twice daily as prescribed by your doctor.
I don't think there will be any problem to worry about.

Regards

Dr Arun
