What Are The Risk Of Contacting HIV After Anal Intercourse?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, I'm concerned about my risk of contacting HIV.
Yesterday, I had anal sex (I'm the receptive end) with a guy from internet. He said he's clean and disease free, but I have reasons to doubt his words.
Anyways, that was the first time I had anal sex, and it was pretty painful. He had a condom on for parts of the process, and sneakily took it off in between for a while until I noticed and asked him to leave.
The penetration process was pretty minimal, he hardly moved when he's in me, and the entire process lasted less than 10 minutes.
He did not ejaculate either. And he also used excessive lube.
I know that in this case I'm probably not eligible for PEP, and I've been freaking out about it since.
Can you please tell me how risky is my situation and what are some things I could do at this point of time.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
The risk is very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HCM.

You had protected anal intercourse then the risk is obviously not there. If your partner had removed it in between then also the risk is very less with such short and single exposure so don't get worried.

The best way to calm down your fear or anxiety is to get tested as you rightly said that this exposure is not eligible for HIV. Be relaxed and go for the 4th generation HIV Duos test after one month. For any further query get back to me again any time.

Thank You

Also, he might have used his saliva to lube the condom once, would that increase my risk?

Brief Answer:
It will not increase the risk.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

If your partner used his saliva for lubrication than also the risk is not increased as human saliva is not the fluid which transmits HIV and it also have an enzyme which inhibits the growth of HIV virus so don't get worried and forget about the incidence

I have heard that pre-cum also carries the potential of transmitting HIV virus. And that's what I'm concerned about in my case. He probably had unprotected anal penetration for 5 mins, and can you tell me if that put me at risk?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
You are not at risk.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome back once again.

You had rightly said pre-cum also carries the risk of transmission but from single short exposure the risk is very unlikely when the status of your partner is unknown so don't think too much about HIV.

Do meditation or yoga to relax your mind. You can also consider counselling services if needed. Get tested after one month and the result will surely be in your favor. For any query get back to me again.
