Brief Answer:
The suppository may cause vaginal irritation but will not harm you

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Rectal suppositories are designed to be absorbed through the mucous membrane of the intestinal wall, which is relatively impervious to inflammation.

In theory, suppositories should work equally well when inserted into the vagina, as it is also a mucous membrane. However, the skin of the vagina is more sensitive than the rectum, so the vagina can get irritated more easily if the ingredients in the suppository are caustic to the skin.

So if you can remove the medication from your vagina with your fingers, I advise you to do so, but if that it impossible, it my work equally well inserted in the vagina. If you have any itching or burning afterwards, you should see your GYN doctor for evaluation to see if you require any cream for treatment of intravagainal inflammation.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
