Brief Answer:
Consult with the particular surgeon about his particular technique/risks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

You are probably familiar with the risks, which are typical to any general surgical procedure, with some additional risks from the implanted material. Here is some information about risks:

XXXX

But the safety for you specifically will depend on a few variables such as
- your history of tolerating anesthesia
- your history of wound healing (such as any history of keloids)
- this particular surgeon's rate of success vs complications.

I advise you meet with the surgeon for an initial consult. At this consult, she or he should be able to tell you the risk likelihood of complications from his practice. Not just the general list of risks, but his or her own estimated rate of the complications that he or she has seen in his/her practice. It is entirely reasonable for you to ask this and for him/her to discuss this with you. Surgeons who do cosmetic work know that what they provide is elective and that their patients need to decide if it is worth it.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.

Brief Answer:
Information below.

Detailed Answer:
Several large studies have shown that there is no correlation between currently used types of implants and breast cancer.

There may be a possible risk of developing a type of lymphoma. The risk appears to be low and we don't have a lot of information about it yet. The FDA has listed it as a possible association between breast implants and the development of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). ALCL is a very rare cancer of the immune system. The FDA believes that women with breast implants may have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL. They state that further research is needed to fully understand the relationship between ALCL and breast implants.
