Question: my son 11 years was prescribed ambrolite s which increased his cough significantly which led the prescription of corex after 30 minutes his coughing has stopped and he is sleeping. pl advise any risk of corex simple being given after ambrolide s

Corex is having codeine and chlorphenaramine.
Both are sedative in nature.
So sleeping is common after codex.
Codeine is not good for children because it is having habit forming property.
So better to avoid it in children.
Instead of corex , he should be given simple cough suppressant containing dextromethorphan and chlorphenaramine. These 2 drugs are safe in children , so better to start these instead of codeine containing corex.
So discuss with your doctor about habit forming side effect of codeine and change it to plain dextromethorphan and chlorphenaramine.
