Question: I recently had wax removed from my ear . It was done in a very rough manner and I am concerned that the doctor may have punctured my eardrum. I did have a hearing test shortly there afteer ands was told my hearing was not as good as 4 years ago, but not bad. Is it possible that I have apunbctured eardrum?

Brief Answer:
You might have trauma to ear canal than ear drum.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

In your case , as per your clinical history it appears that you might have trauma to ear canal than ear drum.

In my opinion , if you have sudden pain , blood stain discharge , sudden decrease hearing & tinnitus then there is possibility of ear drum punctured .

Pain occur during ear wax removal if it is not soften with wax dissolving ear drop prior to removal. It should be done with suction machine under microscope .

Hearing decreases progressively as age decreases . Hence your hearing is less as compare to 4 year back.

If I were your treating doctor, I would advice you Keep ear dry , don’t allow water go inside while bath. Use ear plug. If any trauma occur during ear wax removal it will heal within 7-10 days.

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Thanks.
