What Are Symptoms Of Contusion?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: Yes i fell at work, hit my head the dr. says i have a contusion. I have been having headaches light and noise bother me also. Im having my eyes feel heavy and tight, neck and shoulder pain, and a sharp pain in my butt shooting down my leg. This has been going on since 8-25-14. Should I be having all this from hitting my head? I cut hair, and the cord from the clippers was wrapped around my leg. I turned quickly to catch my fall and pulled the styling chair with me. at that time i believe it knocked my legs out from under me which caused me to hit head first. People at work have said I have slurred my words since I came back. Suppose to be going to see a neurologist soon. I feel that my owners are not taking this serious. I thought they told me a concussion at the er, but my paperwork says contusion. Now they are acting like I have a bruise or something. My symtoms are very real, and I would like to know more about a contusion, and its symtoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Sorry to hear about your pain and discomfort following a fall at work.

Concussion and contusion are different terms used in association with brain injury. While concussion is a mildest for of brain injury, there is no visible structural abnormalities detected on head scans, contusion is more like a brain bruise and it is visible are a focal area of brain injury on scans.

Concussions usually do not manifest into anything serious, however subtle symptoms like brain fog may persist for days to weeks. This happens due to minor injury to nerves and is not visible on imaging. Rarely there can be emotional changes and irritability seen even after concussions.

Contusions which are regions of primary neuronal and vascular injury and is visible as small areas of bleeding in the brain, also may present with confusion and slight disorientation lasting few days to weeks. There can also be associated symptoms like memory loss, attention problems, emotional disturbances, difficulty with motor coordination, numbness and loss of ability to understand or express speech.

If you suspect that you have brain contusion, please consult with a neurologist immediately.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

Could this fall result in the pain I am having in my butt area, that is sharp and shooting down my right leg. I have had back surgery in 2001. Fusion L4-L5, AND L5-S1.

Brief Answer:
Pain in lower back and leg can result from fall

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

This is a high possibility of you hurting your lower back at the time of fall. An earlier surgery like fusion of the spine may further intensify the pain. This can be felt along the leg as described by you.

Hope your query is answered.
