Question: My husband is at the end stages of alcoholism. He was sober for the last three months but started drinking two weeks ago and he is non stop but also sleeping all the time. He's only drinking old Mill beer but I'm so worried about him.

Brief Answer:
if no drugs caused it then it could be liver failure

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the information you've given prove that your husband's liver is in severe condition. In such patients drugs may have a more prolonged effect. Combining them with alcohol may increase their sedative effect. Please check whether your husband takes benzodiazepines which is a commonly used drug to help with alcohol withdrawal.

If no drugs can be blamed for his sleepiness, then perhaps it's just the liver failure. The ammonia levels should be measured. If they're high then he would have to be hospitalized.
