Question: since having my son almost 2 years ago my cycles have been unpredictable. i stopped breastfeeding him when he was 6 mo. an ovulation test indicated i ovulated about 25 days ago. we had sex 4 days ago and yesterday i had a very slight Red/Brown discharge. And nothing since. This is the longest cycle I have ever had, currently on cycle day 38. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to hormonal changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

The delay in periods that you are having can be due to a hormonal disturbance- low thyroid hormone levels or raised prolactin levels. Such disturbance can happen after delivery due to weight gain and breast feeding. It is best to consult your gynecologist and get a few blood tests done to find out the cause of delay. You can also get hormonal tablets prescribed to get a withdrawal bleeding. Using a regular contraceptive will also help you in having regular periods.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

Wishing you good health.
Regards.

could it be implantation bleeding?

Brief Answer:
Implantation bleeding less likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.

The reddish brown discharge can be due to the impending period. If you did not have sex prior to 4 days ago then it is not likely to be an implantation bleeding. You can wait for a few days and see if the bleeding increases. Doing a urine test will help in ruling out the pregnancy.

Hope my answer is helpful.
