Suggest Ways To Manage Lorazepam Dosage Without Getting Addicted

Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: I have been taking 1mg of lorazapam twice a day since my husband killed himself a few days after christmas. I haven't taken one since yesterday afternoon because I don't want to get addicted. Right now I am shaky and crying more than usual over my husband. I am assuming it is adjusting to not having lorazapam in my system. Should I go ahead and take one and get off them more slowly? I don't need an addiction on top of everything else.

Hello

Thanks for the query

Lorazepam is a benzodiazapine group of drugs which has serious addictive properties. Please do not try de addiction on your own without supervision of your psychiatrist. It can cause severe anxiety, tremors, depression and sometimes even seizures. It has to be tapered very slowly over 6-8 weeks sometimes even more if the tapering is not tolerated.

I have been taking them for about 2 months. Is that long enough that I might be addicted? They help me a lot right now. Not only did my husband commit suicide, but 5 weeks later my little sister died unexpectedly. I have been having a very hard time.
