The best way to lose weight is that, which gives you long benefits in your health, being gradual and healthy. Which means that you should not lose weight quickly but gradually and use methods that are easy to be applied lifelong.

Most people who lose weight want to lose it fast and think that with the weight loss all is over, actually maintaining it is as important as achieving the weight-loss.

The best way to lose weight is gradual and also the one that gives long term benefits to your health. Weight is a risk factor for many health issues like hypertension, diabetes, high lipids and other diseases like heart problems, joint issues etc.

Several rules to keep in mind:

1. keeping active- this means try to walk as much as you can during the day. This does not make you lose weight but it might help prevent weight gain

2. exercises that increase your breathing and heart rate are the ones that will cause you to lose weight- running, aerobic exercises, swimming, etc. These need to be at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes first and then gradually increase according to your tolerance to exercise. Do not tend to go fast and increase it quick- because this might bring failure to continue it.

3. make sure you have healthy lifestyle like no smoking and limitied alcohol use (less than 2 units a day). Smoking and alcohol are not healthy in general and alcohol consumption might increase your weight. A gym instructor might help you to decide on the exercises you need for this and how to progress.

4. You can contact a dietitian and calculate the calories you need for your daily activities and the ones you need to reduce weight and he might help you decide on meals that you can use so you do not go beyond those caloric values per day.

5. Consistency is more important than speed- make small consistent changes.

6. herbal remedies and other medical techniques/methods are not as healthy and not necessarily effective and might bring many side effects on you.
