Brief Answer:
To gain weight you need to consume more calories every day.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.

If someone has body mass index (BMI) less than 18.5 then he would be considered as a underweight.

Underweight might occur due to family history or genetic or improper diet intake or some eating disorders or some chronic diseases.

Here,You have not mentioned your weight (in kg) and height (in cm). So,kindly let me know your height .

To gain weight, you may need to consume more calories every day from healthy foods and choose the right type of exercises to have good muscle tone.

However, there is no specific medicine available in allopathy field for healthy weight gain and if someone claims it to be steroids, then I would not personally recommend to take them since they could be harmful to the human body.

The ideal, scientific and the safest way to increase your weight is by increasing the bulk/tone of muscles which will require extra proteins, additional supplements of vitamins, minerals and essential elements and adequate physical exercises/workout in the gym (like cycling, jogging etc) to build up the muscles' tone.

But before going to discuss it further,I would require your height (cm) and weight.

For Allergic Rhinitis.

Mild to moderate form of allergic rhinitis can be managed with prophylactic medications like montelukast with levocetrizine or steroidal nasal spray.

So,continue with anti-allergic drugs like antihistamines (levocetrizine) with mast cell stabilizers (montelukast) to combat allergic symptoms.

Steam Inhalation twice daily through steam vaporizer and saline nasal spray thrice daily.

Use warm water gargle 20 minutes after a nasal spray which would also give symptomatic relief.

The best way to cure allergy is to avoid contact with the allergen,so you can make out on your own which particular substance is causing it and try avoid contact it.

If still problem persists then you should consult ENT specialist who can recommend you certain blood tests with ESR and X-ray of face to make a diagnosis clear.

Brief Answer:
High protein, sufficient carbohydrates and lesser fats.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up and sharing more information.

Your body mass index (BMI) is 19.17 (height 171 cm and 56 kg weight) is not so low (normal BMI range is from 18.5-24.9 kg/m) but if you want to gain some weight then you should start eating right type of diet and choose regular exercises.

Following are dietary tips to follow to gain some weight. You may take some time to gain the weight what you need, but be patient as weight gain process should always be gradual.

1) Eat high calorie, high protein diet. Do not increase the intake of junk foods and greasy foods.

2) Eat healthy fats like omega-3 essential fatty acids sources like salmon, walnuts.

3) Eat good protein rich foods like lean meats, fish, poultry, egg white nuts, seeds, pulses and legumes.

4) Eat healthy carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

5) Protein powder like 'whey protein supplement' and nutritional supplement drinks can be added for which you can see local pharmacist to find out which ones are available in your area.

6) Drink a lot of fluids that supply nutrients and calories like milk, fresh fruit juice and energy drinks.

7) Drink at least 2 glasses of milk, replace tea with milk.

8) Have eggs for breakfast. Custard is good for putting on weight.Eat bananas and sapota milkshakes.

Keep a record of calorie intake each day. Try to increase calories intake by checking the record and continue to increase calorie intake until you gain weight.

You should take approx 2000 kilo-calories per day or requirement of protein is approximately 60 grams per day and carbohydrates 300 grams per day.

You can take diet as per our routine diet schedule like morning breakfast; afternoon lunch and evening dinner.

I will advise you to count from daily protein intake in grams which would be much easier for you rather than counting from calories.

To gain weight, you must take protein rich foods like,

Eggs (6 gram protein),
Milk (1 cup- 8 gram protein),
Cheese (1 cup-30 gram protein),
Yogurt (1 cup 10 gram protein),
Soy beans (1 cup 30 gram protein),
Peanuts (2 TSF-8 gram protein),
Almonds (1 cup -30 to 35 gram protein),
Cashews (1 cup- 20 to 25 gram protein).

Apart from protein, you should also take sufficient carbohydrates as they are also the high source of energy.

You can take daily 2 boiled eggs in which egg white portion is a good source of protein and egg yellow or egg yolk is a rich source of fats and omega-3 fatty acids which will help you to gain weight.

I would further advise you to take fruits and green leafy vegetables also because they are having nutrients like vitamins and minerals which is equally necessary for our health.

Exercises like daily jogging, cycling, running and skipping would be good for at least half an hour daily.

Wishing good health.
