Question: My big toe nail had to be removed after an accident. Not sure how to care for it to make sure it heals properly.
Soak in warm water with Epson Salts? Hydrogen Peroxide? Salt? Other? Was so traumatized that I forgot to ask the doctor or simply don't remember what he said :(

Brief Answer:
Do you have Iodine?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this accident that you sustained.

Cleansing the leg with an antiseptic solution daily with a compress would be sufficient. You may use Iodine or any other antiseptic solution recommended by your local pharmacist. Instead of cleansing, you may also want to soak the toe in a solution containing the local antiseptic.

Are you on any antibiotics? I will like to have a photo of this nail to make sure there is nothing more beyond regular cleansing and dressing that is require. Avoid covered shoes and stockings until healing is far advanced as these can all delay healing.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Thank you so much for using our services.

Do not have iodine on hand. Would hydrogen peroxide or Epson salts diluted in warm water work for tonight? What portion of each should I use? Saw some postings saying just soak in salt water on other health sites. I am not on antibiotics. If I buy iodine tomorrow, what would the portion to water be?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for this follow up precision.

I would recommend 5ml to every 500ml. Warm water and salt can be used and this case, just get the water slightly salty. There is no problem going without antibiotics. pretty sure your doctors didn't deem this necessary.

Let me know if this works for you. I wish you a speedy recovery!
