Suggest Treatment For White Flaky And Dry Skin In The Groin Area

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I have white, flaky, dry skin on my groin just above and slightly to the sides of the base of my penis as well as between my scrotum and anus, covering the entire area between my legs. Sometimes this itches and sometimes it does not. I have used clotrimazole cream on it now for 2-3 weeks with no improvement (and possible worsening). I am an eighteen-year-old white man living in Florida. Thanks

Brief Answer:
a photo is requested, terbinafin, gentian violet to use

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

I need to have a look at a clear photo of the problematic skin for a more specific opinion.

From what you are describing, the white dry skin on groin and genital area is suggestive for possible fungal infection. If clotrimazole was not effective, this means that it was not the right medication to treat it.

In such cases, I usually recommend my patients to :
- keep a good local hygiene
- avoid perfumed detergent or cleansers
- wash with warm water and non perfumed soap
- rinse thoroughly by using lukewarm water
- dry well
- apply gentian violet solution; it will color the skin with a violet color but that is temporary ; let it dry
- apply terbinafin lotion / cream locally

Can repeat twice daily for two weeks, then will decide depending on improvement.

Hope it was of help!
