Suggest Treatment For Wet Cough And Tiredness
Question: I have had a wet cough for 2 months. The cough originates at the notch in my neck. Keeps me up at night. Growing tired and downtrouden. I am a 75 year old retired dentist. Seen a doctor 4 times. No fever, clear lungs, no other symptoms. Chest Xray fine. Been treated with antibiotics, cortzone, allegra,robitusin. ENT scoped and found no pathoklogy. MEDS..SIMVASTATIN....ATENOLOL....METFORMIN.....FLUOXETINE.....LOSARTAN(Stoped 1week now,checking for allergy)... Started myself on OMEPRAZOL,(Possible acid reflux)?? Seeing doctor again tomorrow. Should I see allergest? (I have no known allergies).

Better to get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
We need need to rule out bronchitis in your case because bronchitis can cause coughing with expectations. Chest x ray is mostly normal in the bronchitis.
And PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid.

I have used inhaled bronchodilators (ventolin HFA) and a cortizone treatment (pills) for 6 days. Not any help. I am at my witts end. I have another doctor appt tomorrow. Any other suggestions?
