Suggest Treatment For Vocal Hoarseness

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: Hello,
I've been suffering from vocal hoarseness for about 8 weeks now. It also feels sometimes like there's a dry patch on my vocal folds or just above them that obviously isn't helped by drinking water, though I am keeping hydrated (minimum 2lt a day). I was scoped by an ENT several weeks ago and everything seemed to be normal, yet the feeling hasn't improved. I took medication for reflux and it didn't help. In the last few days particularly I have had a slightly stuffy nose too but this hasn't been for the whole duration of my throat issues. I'm not taking any other medication and am a non smoker. I am also a professional singer, yet I am certain that there is nothing functionally wrong with my voice.

Brief Answer:
You might are having mild PND.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX ,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are having post nasal discharge (PND).

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
Plenty of fluids ,
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray thrice daily ,
Tab Esomeprazole 40mg for 6 weeks &
Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Montelukast combination .

Use slip of water inbetween singing , don't make throat dry .

You will get relief with above treatment plan .

You can discuss this with your treating doctor.

Hope this answer helpful to you . If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
