Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: My wife has been fighting a uti which spread to her kidneys. She has been on six or seven different antibiotics. She has been fighting an on again off again fever which spiked at 103.4. THis is high for her because her nrmal body temp is low and usually reads 96.8. I was preparing to take her to emergency but it has started to go back down and last temp was 102.7. Is it safe to keep her home as long as the fever continues to fall ?

Her temp has dropped to 102. Her spike of 103.4 was just about 40 minutes ago. I checked her urine in the toilet and it appeared clear and a normal looking light yellow. Her stool looked normal. Not bloody and not dark colored.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. The first thing that I would need to ask for is the pus cell count. The next thing to ask for is the culture report (assuming that a urine culture has been done). It is meaningless to give 6 or 7 antibiotics. The antibiotic needs to be given as per the sensitivity profile.

You need to give tylenol (acetaminophen) as required to bring down the temperature. Meftal P (mefenamic acid) is more effective but is a prescription medicine.

Give her plenty of water to drink. I will not bother about the urine color so long as it is not dark.

Regards
