Suggest Treatment For Upper Chest And Back Pain While Treating ADHD And Depression

Question: My nine year old son has ADHD, Depression and Sensory Processing Disorder. He takes D-Amphetamine XR 10mg capsule, and then one tablet at night for his symptoms. It usually is helpful but over the last couple days, he has been screaming in whole upper body pain after taking any of the meds. He refuses the capsule, and has agreed to take the tablet, which only lasts four hours at a time, unlike the capsule that lasts up to ten hours. He is refusing both now, as he is associating swallowing the meds with the pain. The pain feels like someone shot him, he says, and it is mostly in the upper chest AND upper back. It is currently still hurting in the upper, mid back, and it has been over an hour since he took the meds. This is a kid who is very active, has had bouts of anger, which has been addressed by his Psychiatrist at the hospital, and who has no issues taking med without water....although he has lately been taking them with water due to this issue...I need ideas & help, as without meds, he is destructive and can be very hurtful, but with remorse....Thank you for some honest help! I will be in touch with his doctor on Tuesday.

Brief Answer:
Psychological counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy should help

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Discuss with the treating psychiatrist if an alternative medicine can be prescribed. There are a number of similar drugs that can be used. Also consult a psychologist. He would be able to evaluate the child and offer cognitive behavioral therapy which will enable the child to cope better with the problems that he has. I hope that things would improve.

I would be glad if you provide updates. Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
